Talking Trash
For
those of you that did not get down and dirty with us at the Town’s First
Annual Clean Up Day, you missed an extraordinary event. The turnout was
phenomenal. The weather was fantastic and the free hot dogs, served up
by Mayor
Pro Tem Carla Anderson and
Gal Pal Beth Miller,
were mighty tasty! An unbelievable ninety-nine Bartonville households
participated. From those households we:
● Recycled 11,000 lbs of metal –
Fulton Supply and Recycling
● Shredded 1,721 lbs of documents –
Cintas Document Shredding
● Recycled over 300 hundred old tires –
Tex-American Recycling
● Recycled forty-five automobile batteries –
Interstate Batteries
● Mulched a multitude of tree limbs and
branches –

● Disposed of 17 Tons of just plain old
trash, debris & junk –

● Collected 2,200 lbs of donated clothing –

● Recycled 39 TVs/Computer Monitors &
destroyed 20 computer hard drives –

● Properly disposed of massive amounts of
hazardous waste products –
Upper Trinity Regional Water District
Hats off to Town Hall’s Terri Neal
for organizing what will definitely become an annual springtime event.
Terri’s energy, creative thinking, and organizational skills made it
look like we had been doing this for years.
Kathy Bradham,
one of our newer residents, worked like a farm hand and made the day
loads of fun. When is the last time you could say you had fun hauling
trash? Well we sure did!
Police Chief
Howell
directed traffic while son
Daniel
loaded old tires and batteries. After taking a crash course in safety,
Town Secretary, Kristi Gilbert,
along with
Jim Farrell,
Betty Medlock,
and
Chris Egan
took on the daunting task of hazardous waste disposal with great
enthusiasm.
Mary Turner
is building her home in Bartonville and even she jumped right in to help
out her soon to be hometown. We need to recruit more residents like
Mary! An impressive fifty-two households rid themselves of old oil,
pesticides, anti-freeze, and other nasty chemicals. The folks at UTRWD
said that it was more like what would be produced by 250 households.
Even they were amazed and this is what they do for a living!
BWSC
and the
Bartonville
Food Store
graciously allowed us to use their parking lots for the spillover (no
pun intended). A special thank you goes to Fulton Supply and
Recycling’s
Virgil
Forrester
and
Daniel Lopez
from Goodwill Industries. They just joined right in and worked
alongside everyone else!
We are
planning on getting even more trashy next spring! So mark your
calendars for Saturday, April 18, 2009.
