WHAT'S NEW
The Town is aware of the recent news reports that have brought to light the possibility of toxic emissions from the Barnett Shale gas wells in our Town.  The health and safety of our citizen’s is always our top priority.  We are awaiting the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality’s final report and recommendations.  In an effort to encourage further investigation and assistance at the state level, Mayor Robertson has contacted Senator Jane Nelson and State Representative Tan Parker.  A copy of the Mayor’s letter may be viewed here.

DENTON COUNTY TO HOLD HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE EVENT

Denton County will hold a Household Hazardous Waste collection event on:

Saturday, October 9, 2010

9:00 am to 12:00 pm

Lantana North Amenity Center

11555 Lantana Trail

Lantana, Texas

The Household Hazardous Waste collection and disposal program is part of Denton County’s ongoing commitment to improve the environment in Denton County and to assist residents in their desire to safely dispose of HHW. As part of Denton County Storm Water Management Program, Denton County has entered into a contract with Upper Trinity Regional Water District (UTRWD) to assist the residents in collecting and disposing of their HHW.  “I am pleased to be able to bring this program to the residents of Southwest Denton County,” said Commissioner Andy Eads. “This partnership with the Upper Trinity Water District will help protect the Lake Lewisville watershed, and keep our drinking water clean.”

Prior to the October 9th event, residents need to pick up a voucher at Denton County Public Works to reserve a spot at the event. There will be a limited number of vouchers available on a first come first serve basis.  The vouchers are at No Cost to the residents.  Please do not bring any HHW to Public Works because they are not able to accept the waste.
