Campaign Finance Reporting

The Campaign Finance Law, Title 15 of the Election Code, regulates the acceptance of, expenditure of, and reports regarding money in political campaigns by candidates, officeholders, and political committees.

Officeholders and candidates are required to file reports of contributions and expenditures, as applicable, in accordance with the Texas Ethics Commission filing schedule.

The Town Secretary's Office accepts Officeholders and Candidates as the local filing authority for municipal elections. The Town Secretary's Office is not responsible for reviewing, advising, or ensuring that candidates, officeholders, or political committees file the required documents. All inquiries should be directed to the Texas Ethics Commission, (512) 463-5800.

The 88th Legislature passed House Bill 2626, which requires all political subdivisions to post on their website all campaign finance reports filed on or after September 1, 2023. The new Internet posting requirement applies to all entities that receive campaign finance reports, including counties, cities, school districts, hospital districts, library districts, utility districts, water districts, etc.

The campaign reports must be posted within ten (10) business days of receipt and remain on the political subdivision’s website for five (5) years after the report is first made available.

Applications and forms submitted by current public officials may contain redactions of information, including home address and home phone number, pursuant to Section 552.117(a)(17) of the Texas Government Code, as amended by House Bill 1082 (87th Regular Legislative Session).
