Appearance Instructions

 For all citations, you must appear by the "Appearance Date" printed on your citation. Phone call(s) do NOT constitute an appearance.  Many citations may be handled via documents that can be emailed or mailed.  

In accordance to state laws, for most citations issued a juvenile, parental summons will be issued via certified and regular mail.

Appearance Options:

** In-person Court activity may require an appointment, subject to Town Ordinances and/or Disaster Declaration(s).  Contact the Court for specific information.

Appearance Option 1:  PLEA and PAY THE CITATION

  • PLEA guilty or "no-contest" and PAY fines and costs incurred
    • PLEA and all PAYMENT options will result in a conviction of the offense and appear on your TX Department of Public Safety, DPS, driving record; a conviction may affect your insurance premiums.  Contact your insurance company for details and/or questions.
      • Pay Online by credit card* at https://www.fastgovpay.com/bartonville   
      • Pay by Mail by check or money order and submit Plea Form. Download and print a PLEA Form.  Sign and submit completed Plea Form with payment.  DO NOT SEND CASH by mail.
      • **Pay in Person by cash, check, money order, or credit/debit card *                 

Appearance Option 2:  DISMISSAL 

On or before the Appearance Date on your citation, you may request in writing dismissal of a citation by Deferred Disposition, Driver’s Safety Course (DSC) or Compliance, provided you meet specific criteria for the dismissal option. Dismissal option(s) required documents may be exchanged via email.  Defendants must have access to a printer and must be able to provide signed documents to the Court in a PDF format attached to email correspondence.  Free apps, such as Adobe Scan, are available to facilitate this requirement.

*ALL credit card payments to the Court are subject to a convenience fee.

If you are a Juvenile or a Minor charged with a Tobacco or Alcohol Related Offense, do not mail payment. Please contact the court for information regarding your appearance.

  • Juvenile Traffic (age 10-16): Must appear in court** with a parent / legal guardian. Notification will be mailed to the defendant’s address.
  • Alcohol or Tobacco by Minor (age 10-17): Must appear in court** with a parent / legal guardian. Notification will be mailed to the defendant’s address.
  • Alcohol Offenses by a Minor (age 18-20): Must appear in court**, on or before the date shown on the citation.

Appearance Option 3: On or before the Appearance Date on your citation, you may SET A COURT DATE if you wish to Plea Not Guilty or need to request alternative or financial arrangements . If you choose to be represented by counsel, your attorney must make written legal representation on or before your Appearance Date on your citation.  

  • To request an Court appearance before the Judge, you must sign a Promise to Appear form.  
    • By email: the form can be emailed to you for electronic (email) submission. 
    • In person** at Town of Bartonville Municipal Court; the Court will provide the form for your signature
    • By mail:  Print the Promise to Appear Form 
      • Call the Bartonville Municipal Court for the next avaiable Court Date/Time
      • Complete and sign the Promise to Appear Form 
      • Mail the completed form to the Court  on or before your appearance date
